Colorado Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the house! Every CBJJ competitor who stepped up and competed at the 2012 NAGA Colorado Championship came home with hardware! Excellent! [Competitors from left to right: Teri Stewart won Gold in the Women's Blue Belt Division; Sean Stewart won the Gold Championship Belt in the No-Gi Expert Division and Silver in the Brown Belt Division; Josh Talkington won Gold in the No-Gi Intermediate Division and Silver in the Blue Belt Division; Kate Stewart won Gold in the Kids (under 13) Intermediate Division; Lars Kjerengtroen won Gold in the Master's No-Gi Intermediate Division, Gold in the Adult No-Gi Intermediate Division, and Gold in the Master's Blue Belt Division; and Tyler "Ginger" Spurlin won Gold in the Men's No-Gi Intermediate Division.] Many of the wins came by way of submission. It was a good day for CBJJ. Way to go CBJJ competitors. Thank you to Professor Ben, Coach Charlee, Coach Chris Serell, and to all of the spectators (Josh Goldberger, Big Don Westman and Cole Harris who are pictured) that came out to support the CBJJ Team!

Cole Harris Wins MMA Debut!

Fighting in the Universal Fight Alliance MMA promotion in Casper, Wyoming, Cole Harris won his MMA debut in the third round via TKO by way of a thunderous superman punch that floored his opponent. Way to go Cole! Way to go CBJJ! Cole fought in the 205 pound light heavy weight division, although the fight was held at a catch-weight of 211 pounds. Cole trains Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with Sean Stewart at CBJJ Stapleton, and has been training striking with Josh Goldberger at the Stapleton and James McSweeney at the Sledgehammer gym. Great work Cole! Big thanks to Cole’s training partners Don Westman and Tyler Spurlin for making the trip up to Casper, and supporting their teammate in his debut.

Josh Goldberger won his pro MMA bout with a flurry of elbows. At the Universal Fight Alliance 10 Promotion on Saturday, March 17, 2012 (St. Patty’s Day), Josh finished his opponent at 32 seconds of the first round via TKO due to strikes. Great work Josh! Way to go CBJJ, with big thanks to Team Wildman!

Josh trains Brazilian Jiu JItsu with coach Sean Stewart at CBJJ Stapleton and trains Striking with coach Mike Collins at CBJJ Stapleton. Josh, together with the other CBJJ Stapleton MMA fighters, also trains with Team Wildman on a weekly basis to sharpen his MMA game under the guidance of Thomas “Wildman” Denny and with the assistance of the whole Team Wildman crew, who provide some of the best sparring partners in Colorado.

Don Westman Wins MMA Debut!

Don Westman won his MMA debut in dominant fashion. At the Universal Fight Alliance 10 Promotion on Saturday, March 17, 2012 (St. Patty’s Day), Don finished his opponent at 1:01 of the first round via TKO due to strikes. Great work Don! Way to go CBJJ, with big thanks to Team Wildman!

Congratulations to Jesse James for achieving the rank of Purple Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu! Well done sir! Jesse was awarded his Purple Belt, by 3rd Degree Rigan Machado Black Belt, Professor David Ruiz, of Colorado Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, on 3/16/2012.

A purple belt has mastered the basics of jiu jitsu, now it’s up to Jesse to master his own jiu jitsu game in pursuit of the Black Belt! Keep up the good work Jesse.

Big congratulations due to Matt Johnson and Fox Clark on their hard fought MMA victories at the RMBB fights at the Grizzly Rose on Saturday, March 10, 2012. Well done Matt; well done Fox. It was Matt’s amateur MMA debut; first fight, first win. It was Fox’s second fight and second victory. Way to go Colorado Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Stapleton! Big thanks also to Team Wildman! Congratulations to all the CBJJ folks who stepped up and put it on the line at the 2012 Fight To Win Tournament of Champions 10. Many, kids and adults alike, came away with gold, silver or bronze. Great work folks!

A huge congratulation to Eric Sahs who not only took gold at the 2012 Fight To Win Tournament of Champions 10, but who won his purple belt by doing so! Awesome job Eric, way to earn your purple!

Colorado State Machado Jiu Jitsu Challenge – SUNDAY 1/22/2012

2012 “Colorado State Machado Challenge” (Invitational) is this Sunday, January 22nd (tomorrow)! Machado Colorado springs BJJ, together with all of the CBJJ gyms will be participating at this time! The Tournament will be held at the Denver Gym (4990 E. Asbury Ave., Denver, CO 80222), on Sunday, Jan 22nd, from 9am-12pm (or thereabouts). Participants can earn a Machado Jiu Jitsu medal and title! Come on out and roll or just to support your teammates. See you there!

Head instructor of the Colorado Kettlebell Club (located directly behind the CBJJ Denver Academy), Nico Rithner is offering a special free Kettlebell seminar specifically designed for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioners. The seminar will be held this Sunday, January 15th at 12:30, immediately before Sunday open mat training at the Denver gym. All CBJJ athletes are welcome to participate.
